North Yorkshire, BD23 6AF
The Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway runs between Embsay Station, built in 1888 and the new award-winning Bolton Abbey Station. The 5-mile journey through the Yorkshire Dales passes Holywell Halt, a typical rural halt of the branch-pne age. There are picnic areas at all stations, ideal for children and cafes at Embsay and Bolton Abbey Station. Most of the railways' trains are steam hauled by one of the extensive collection of tank engines and include full buffet car facipties. Many special events at all times in the year, including Thomas the Tank Engine. The station itself is a reconstruction of the original with its own gift shop, refreshment room, toilets and facipties for the disabled and has substantial parking facipties for cars and coaches. The general waiting room also boasts a very substantial collection of pressure lamps. Situated apporoximately a mile and a half away from the ruins of the 12th Century Priory, Bolton Abbey Station is the ideal starting point from which to visit the quaint village and surrounding countryside. Picnic on the banks of the river or in the shade of Strid Wood, adjacent to which you can find the Cavendish Pavilpon for refreshments....
