Award-winning museum (Gulbenkian 1995/Sandford Award for Educational Excellence 2003) located in the heart of the North York Moors. Reconstructed local buildings including cruck-framed long-houses Elizabethan manor-house, furnished cottages, craftsmen's tools, household/agricultural implements. The oldest daylight photographic studio in the country. Village shop and post office. Archaeological displays from pre-history to the 10thC. Blacksmith's forge, Elizabethan glass furnace. Crafts and Trades...Saddler, blacksmith, tinsmith, cooper, ironfoundry, wheelwright, cobbler, weaving, spinning, woodworking, glass making, lacemaking, leatherworking. The museum is renowned for the collections of craft tools and workshops. All the workshops are set out as if the craftsman has just left the room. There are regular demonstrations of craft working including spinning, weaving, chair caning, woodcarving, blacksmithing and leatherwork.....
